Pop Art Design Exhibition

Superstudio, Passiflora, lamp, 1968

Until the 9th of February there is an exhibition on in the barbican art gallery. It’s called Pop Art Design and I advise artists interested in the Pop Art style to consider going to see this show, as there are a lot of big names and amazing pieces to be seen. There are over 200 pieces by of 70 artists and designers in this exhibition such as Peter Blake, Richard Hamilton, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol.

George Nelson, Marshmallow Sofa, 1956

Pop Art Design is one of the first exhibitions to explore the exchange of ideas between artists and designers in the Pop era. They use a lot of American style advertising and bright colours but also use everyday life from the United Kingdom after the Second World War. It also presents a wealth of graphic material from posters to magazines to album sleeves.

Apart as the actual exhibition, Pop Art Design has also opened a shop inside the gallery. The shop is filled with products in a pop art style; you can buy vintage books, films and vinyls from £5 and various other objects that celebrate the talent of these amazing British artists and designers. I find that this exhibition could help someone who is looking to go into this feel and will definitely provide inspiration for anyone. Below I have listed all the opening times and other details you need to know if you are interesting in going to see this exhibition.
