Our summer project was called
'Matchbox Museum' which is where we had to literally do what the title says,
make a museum with matchboxes. I based my purpose on life and the progression.
I used my friend Lisa Jane Hillman as my inspiration (this explains the name of
my blog because Lisa has always been involved in my art as a model or
something. My middle name is Marie and hers is Jane, hence When Marie Met
Jane). Anyway, I chose Lisa as my inspiration because when I met her she was a
fun loving 7 year old that only cared about sweets and pranks. Now she is a
mother two, home owning, engaged, full time job, and money-earning
woman.
I also had to choose a film and our
specialist area to do a matchbox on.
This is my sheet dedicated to my
film. I chose 'Mirrormask'. This is my favorite film and it’s about a girl who
swaps lives with a girl in her drawings. She is a circus performer but she
loves drawing but her drawings are dark and gloomy which I find very
interesting. I find this ties in with my project because one of the quotes in
the film is 'don't let them see your afraid.' I find this to be advice for life
in general, is you show society you’re afraid your not going to get far you
need to take everything that hits you.
This is my specialist area sheet. My specialist area is sketching and using pencil in general, this also ties in because this is what I love and in life you should do what you love to make he experience more enjoyable.
This is the first sheet of the part based on Lisa.
This one symbolises when we met and our childhood. I have put neon strips on
here because that is the only thing Lisa and I used to wear at that age. I've
also added water balloons and mud because we used to challenge the kids in our neighborhood
to a water bomb fight and it was always messy work. Out of all the sheets this
is my least favorite because I didn't really have many photos of our childhood
because we didn't have cameras at the age of 7.
This is the second sheet. This one symbolises us growing up and turning into teenagers. At this point in life we started comp, wearing make up, going out then later going to college etc. this was a stressful time because of all our exams and boys started coming into our lives an just generally teenager things but in the photos you can see we're still smiling.
This is where things start to get mature in Lisa life,
this is where she met the father of her child Tommy Knight and they started
building a life together. Lisa became very mature after this point, we started
smoking, getting tattoos and then she got pregnant with her first of two
beautiful children. Once she had given birth she moved up to Haverford west
with Tommy's family. Of course Lisa and me faded a bit with this moved but I
still see her all the time and talk, there's nothing that will come in the way
of our friendship.
Life goes on.. Once they had moved they lived with relatives for a while but this is where Lisa really got everything sorted. Within 6 months they got their own house, a full time job each, got engaged, everything was finally finished they had everything they needed and then, Taya came along, my beautiful goddaughter, so now after everything she's living happily in her cozy house with her fiancée and two amazing children just getting on with life and doing a damn good job of it. I'm proud of you Lisa.
These are my final matchboxes.
Everyone links to a sheet even the film and specialist area ones. They are all
about how I see life should be (I know, this project is deep).
The first box is from the first sheet
from when we were younger; there is a water balloon inside. The second is from
the second sheet when we became teenagers with headphones inside. This was when
music became a massive part of our lives. The third is from the third sheet. It
has a tag saying 'new born' off one of the baby’s bibs; this is when she
started building a family. Next is the fourth sheet when she settled down,
there is a ring inside to symbolise their engagement. The fifth box symbolises
my specialist area, which is drawing so there is the top of a pencil in there
and the last is from the film. There is a broken piece of glass inside to
symbolise mirrors and there is foil around the edges.
As a whole, I really enjoyed
doing this project. It was so amazing looking through old photos and
remembering old memories and things like that. Also it showed me actually how
much Lisa has succeeded and it made me realise how much of an amazing mother
she is and how much she does for her family. It was amazing to produce and I
live the final outcomes.
